The County of DuPage and the City of Darien have partnered to expand financial assistance for homeowners who choose to install an overhead sanitary sewer system. An overhead sanitary sewer system helps protect homes from future sanitary sewer backups by replacing a home's gravity sewer connection with an overhead sewer configuration. County of DuPage Reimbursement
Under the DuPage County Overhead Sewer Grant Program:
- The County reimburses the first $2,000 of the homeowner's paid installation cost.
- The County then reimburses 50% of the remaining eligible cost, up to a maximum County reimbursement of $7,500.
City of Darien Additional Reimbursement
To further assist residents, the City of Darien will reimburse up to an additional $5,000 toward the homeowner's remaining out-of-pocket cost after the County reimbursement has been applied.
The maximum combined reimbursement available is $12,500.

Residents interested in participating should review the above link and contact the County of DuPage at (630) 407-6800 for additional information before beginning work to verify eligibility, review program requirements, and obtain information regarding the application and reimbursement process. The County will forward the City the approved reimbursement and the City will reimburse the resident as per the schedule above up to $5,000.
Please note this program will not cover any costs for restoration or remodeling.
This expanded partnership significantly reduces the cost of installing an overhead sanitary sewer system and provides homeowners with an effective long-term solution to help prevent sanitary sewer backups during heavy rainfall events.
