As a Mayor, I am often reminded that the passage of time brings both pride and reflection, not only in our community, but in our families as well. This week, my granddaughter Ella celebrated her 16th birthday, a milestone that marks both excitement and a bit of nostalgia.
It feels like just yesterday she was “Papa’s sweetheart,” a little girl full of wonder. Today, she is growing into a remarkable young woman, beginning to seek her own independence and chart her path toward the future. This week also brings another important step, her driver’s license test, which will grant her new freedom, while understandably bringing a few anxious moments for her parents and grandparents.
Ella is bright, thoughtful, loving, and wise beyond her years. She has a strong sense of family and a keen understanding of the importance of surrounding herself with people who care, support, and uplift one another. These qualities will serve her well as she faces the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
As her grandfather, I could not be prouder of her and her accomplishments. I am confident that she will continue to seek guidance from those she loves and trusts, and that she will navigate her journey with strength and grace. As she reaches this milestone in her life, all I can say, is Happy Birthday Ella; always remember how much we love you, and that I will always be here to support you, dry your tears when needed, and advise you as you meet your future challenges, you will always be “Papa’s sweetheart!”
