Freezing temperatures are back, so it's time to bundle up, especially if you plan to spend time outdoors! Wind, moisture, and cold temperatures can cause frostbite and hypothermia, but you can help prevent these conditions by following these tips from the National Safety Council before heading outside:
- Check the temperature and limit your time outdoors if it's very cold, wet or windy.
- Bundle up in several layers of loose clothing
- Wear mittens rather than gloves
- Cover your head and ears with a warm hat
- Wear socks that will keep your feet warm and dry
If your heat stops working, DuPage County provides designated warming centers during cold weather to help keep residents safe. Find locations near you at 211dupage.gov.
