Neighborhood Alert from DuPage County Sheriff - Suspicious Person/Attempt to give a child a Ride

5/9/2018 | Posted in: News

On May 7th, 2018, at approximately 5:00 P.M. the Sheriff's Office received a report a male subject following a young girl home from Lakeview Junior High School.

The girl was walking west on Plainfield Road west of Lakeview Junior High School when a male Hispanic, described as 30-40 years of age with scruffy facial hair, and wearing a baseball hat, began honking his horn at her as he traveled westbound on Plainfield Road. When the girl turned south on to Lakeside Drive the driver drove up next to her and made inappropriate comments to her while offering her a ride. As she approached Cambridge Court the van began to slow down so she used her cell phone to call her family at which time the driver pulled away. The vehicle is described as an older model dark green passenger van with windows on the side that appeared rusty.

Parents and students are reminded that children should try to always walk in groups and have their cell phone ready to use. Additionally, kids should be instructed to never acknowledge or have any conversation with a person they don't know who attempts to speak to them.
