AGENDA MEMO
City Council
April 16, 2012
Issue Statement
A resolution authorizing the City Administrator or Assistant City
Administrator to accept a proposal from the winning electric supplier to serve
the City of Darien under the ordinance and Plan of Governance passed by the
City Council on April 2, 2012.
RESOLUTION
Background/History
On March 20, 2012 Darien residents
passed a referendum authorizing the City of Darien to operate an “opt out” electrical
aggregation program under the Illinois Power Agency Act. On March 26, 2012 and April 2, 2012 the City
of Darien held public hearings on the Plan of Operation and Governance, which
was adopted through ordinance at the April 2, 2012 City Council meeting. This ordinance authorizes the electric
aggregation program in accordance with the Plan of Operation and
Governance. During the week of April 9,
2012 electric suppliers were sent a supply agreement and required to submit
proposals by April 16, 2012. Due to the
nature of electric as a commodity, the proposals are only good for one day and
expire on April 17, 2012. Pricing from
the proposals will be provided to the City Council at the meeting, with options
for one, two or three years, as well as adding green energy above and beyond
the requirement already in place. The
resolution authorizes the City Administrator or Assistant City Administrator to
execute an agreement with the lowest cost provider under the terms set forth by
the City Council.
Staff/Committee Recommendation

Alternate Consideration
