Absentee Voting
A DuPage County registered voter who expects to be absent
from the county on Election Day, may vote absentee prior to
Election Day, either "by mail" or "in-person". Absentee
voting starts approximately 40 days prior to an Election.
Please contact our office for verification of availability.
Absentee voting is available to a qualified registered
voter who, on Election Day, will be unable to vote in person
at the polls for one of the following reasons:
- Absent from County
- Temporarily absent from the Country
- Serving as a judge of election outside his/her
precinct
- Observing a religious holiday
- Performing official election duties
- Performing election law enforcement duties
- Physically incapacitated (Temporarily incapacitated)
- Pre-trial detainee or Called for jury duty

To Vote Absentee "By Mail"
- Call the Election Commission to request an absentee
ballot at (630) 407-5600, TDD: (630) 407-5631
- Provide information regarding where ballot should be
sent and Party Ballot requested (for a Primary Election
only)
- When ballots are available, both the required
Application for Absentee Ballot form and the Absentee
Ballot will be mailed to voter. -OR-
- Obtain an official Application for Absentee Ballot
form. The form may be downloaded from this website (if
you
check your Voter Status) or pick one up from any
DuPage County registration location. (Click here for a
list of Registration locations)
Complete and return Application for Absentee Ballot
form. When available, ballot will be mailed upon receipt
of the completed application.
The last day to mail an absentee ballot to a voter is
the Thursday (5 days) prior to the election.
- Voted ballot must be postmarked by the day before
the Election in order to be counted.
To Vote Absentee "In
Person"
- Appear in the office of the DuPage County Election
Commission
- Complete an Application for Absentee Ballot and vote
ballot
Registered Voter Admitted to
Hospital, Nursing Home or Rehabilitation Center Within 14
Days of Election
Any qualified voter who has been admitted to a hospital,
nursing home or rehabilitation center due to an illness or
physical injury not more than 14 days before an election is
entitled to personal delivery of an absentee ballot in the
hospital, nursing home or rehabilitation center. An
Application for Ballot for Qualified Voter Admitted to
Hospital, Nursing Home or Rehabilitation Center Not More
Than 14 Days Before an Election form must be completed by
voter and admitting physician, then delivered to the
Election Commission office by a relative of the voter or a
registered voter of the same precinct as voter to receive
absentee ballot.

U.S. Service and Citizens
Overseas Absentee Voting
The Federal Voting Assistance Program website provides
information to U.S. citizens covered by the Uniformed and
Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA).
U.S. Service and citizens of the United States
temporarily residing outside the U.S. may submit a Federal
Post Card Application (FPCA) to receive an absentee ballot.
This application may be considered a request for absentee
ballot for each subsequent election for Federal office held
in the State through the next two (2) regularly scheduled
general elections for Federal office, upon voter’s request.
It is recommended that U.S. Service and Citizens Overseas
submit a FPCA annually in the month of January and whenever
there is a mailing address change to insure proper mailing
of ballots.
Please Note: This form is only for U.S. Service and
Citizens of the United States residing overseas.

UOCAVA citizen, and wish to vote
absentee, please check your registration status, download
and complete an Application for Absentee Ballot form or call
the Election Commission at 630-407-5600 to request an
absentee ballot.

Temporarily Absent Student
Program
If you are currently registered to vote in DuPage County,
Illinois, and wish to retain your voting rights in DuPage
County while away at college, you may do so, and vote
absentee by enrolling in the Temporarily Absent Student
Program.
A Temporarily Absent Student Notice form must be
completed and submitted to the Election Commission in order
to be enrolled in the program.

Once enrolled in the Temporarily Absent Student Program,
the Election Commission automatically sends an Application
for Absentee Ballot form and ballot to the student for every
election in the two-year period following enrollment in the
program.
Please Note: You may not claim the right to vote in more
than one jurisdiction. If you register to vote at school,
your DuPage County registration should be cancelled.
Inquiries regarding this program should be referred to
the Absentee Voting Department Manager.
Permanently Disabled Absentee
Voting Program
If you are a registered voter who has a permanent
disability or physical incapacity of such a nature as to
make it improbable that you will be able to be present at
the polls at any future election, you may enroll in the
Permanently Disabled Absentee Voting Program..
An Application for Identification Card by an Elector Who
is Permanently Disabled/Affidavit of Attending Physician
form must be completed (also signed by the voter’s doctor)
and submitted to the Election Commission in order to be
enrolled in the program.

Once enrolled in the program, the Election Commission
automatically sends an Application for Absentee Ballot by an
Elector who is Permanently Incapacitated form and ballot to
the voter for every election in the five-year period
following enrollment in the program.
