Please call DuPage County Public Works at 630-985-2905
to have water service placed in your name.
Residents of the City of Darien are not all served by the same water
system. Please call the Darien Public Works Department at
630-353-8105 for details about your water service.
Sanitary Sewer Service
Three sanitary districts service and maintain Darien’s sanitary sewer
system. Sewer fees are billed jointly (every two months) with water
bills by DuPage County. Sewer consumption is based on water use, per
1000 gallons. Details about sanitary sewer service may be obtained by
County at 630-985-2905.
While the Electric aggregation program has been extremely successful
during the first two years (average resident savings have been in excess
of $450), the ComEd rate is currently competitive with the aggregation
program’s pricing. With no early termination fees, residents are free to
leave the aggregation program at any time to move to ComEd or other
suppliers. Should those rates later rise, residents are free to move
back to the Village’s aggregation program (with a 6 month wait period)
or any other retail program immediately. There would be no switching
fees to move back to/from ComEd.
The ComEd rate is now re-set
twice a year, and has an additional component that can change monthly,
resulting in monthly price swings up to 1.0˘. The “all in” ComEd rate
now varies and we will update our website periodically to reflect these
changes. If a resident chooses to purchase its electricity from ComEd,
they would pay 3 individual charges each month. Those charges consist
of: energy, transmission and the PEA. The PEA can be a charge or a
credit of up to 0.5˘, and can change monthly. Therefore, the “all in”
ComEd rate will range from 6.93˘ to 7.93˘ until June 2015.
resident desiring to move back to ComEd should contact Verde Energy at
1-800-241-0295. Have your account number when you place the call.
Residents can find alternative priced rates from other suppliers at
www.PlugInIllinois.org. Residents with questions can call our the
City of Darien’s energy consultant, NIMEC, at 1-800-727-3820.

The solid waste management program for the City of Darien is a volume
based sticker program for the disposal of refuse and yard waste. The
City selected this type of program in 1990 to allow homeowners to have
control over their solid waste disposal. The program provides an
economic incentive to recycle and allows us to participate in a positive
way to do our part in protecting the environment. Waste
collection/hauling services are provided by Advanced Disposal Services.
New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day,
and Christmas Day. Wherever the Holiday falls, pickup will be
ONE day later – Fridays will be picked
up on Saturday.
Stickers cost $3.31 each and may be used to dispose of both refuse
and yard waste. Residents may choose to affix a sticker to the handle of
a 32/33 gallon (maximum capacity allowed)
garbage can, or affix sticker to each 32/33 gallon bag of garbage.
As an alternative to the volume based program, Advanced Disposal
offers 64 or 96 gallon wheeled totes for customers to lease/rent (totes
do not require stickers). Fees for totes are $20.37 for a 64 gallon tote
and $24.93 for a 96 gallon tote per month. Advanced Disposal bills
directly to the homeowner. Refuse and yard waste may not be combined
within a tote container.
The program also offers a full-scale recycling service on the same
day as refuse and yardwaste collection. Recycling bins may be purchased
directly from Advanced Disposal by calling first to place an order and
the bin will be delivered on the next regular collection day. Bins may
also be purchased at Darien City Hall Bins should be clearly marked with
the address number and street name for identification purposes.
For more information about the sticker program, tote rental,
collection days, and large/bulk or appliances item disposal, please
contact Advanced Disposal at 708-409-9700.
Yard wastes must be disposed of in either 2-ply kraft paper yard bags
(no plastic bags may be used), or 33 gallon trash container. If using a
trash container it MUST
have a yard waste identification label attached to the front. These
labels are available at Darien City Hall.
Free Leaf Collection
Leaves are collected for free during the months of October and
November. Leaves ONLY may be placed in paper yardwaste collection bags
or trash cans marked with a yard waste I.D. label. Regular yardwaste
must still be tagged with a refuse sticker.
Free Branch Pickup
The City of Darien is pleased to be able to offer free bi-monthly
branch pickup spring thru fall for all residents. Branches should be
stacked neatly by the curb on the Sunday before the pickup week. The
chipper can accept branches up to 6” in diameter. Please do not tie the
branches or put it in garbage cans. All other yard waste such as grass
clippings and flowers should be disposed of through our yard waste
program with Advanced Disposal.
All branch needs to be out by no later than the Sunday night prior to
the designated pick up week. The chipping crew can make only one pass
and may complete your street as soon as Monday morning.
Residents who are unable to put their branches out prior to the
scheduled week can take it to the Municipal Services Facility, 1041 S.
Frontage Road, and place it in the brush dumpster.
For current pickup dates and more information please contact
Municipal Services at 630-353-8105.
