Darien Receives Lowest Electric Rates in Illinois

Darien voters authorized the City to negotiate electric supply rates on the behalf of residents.  We are proud to announce our recent bid provides for the lowest rates in the State of Illinois, at 4.54 per kWh for two years, when compared with the current ComEd rate of 7.73 per kWh.  These savings would save the average resident approximately $250 per year, even as the ComEd rate drops to around 7.00 per kWh in June.  Residents will be receiving notices in the mail over the next month allowing them to opt-out of the program if they so choose.

Applications Being Accepted for General Utility Worker

The City of Darien is currently accepting applications for the position of General Utility 3 in the Streets Division of the Municipal Services Department.  The job ad and application can be found on the City of Darien website under “Employment.”

City of Darien Hiring Seasonal Workers

Looking for a summer job?  The City of Darien is currently hiring seasonal workers for the Municipal Services Department.  The positions assist with jobs such as grass cutting, branch pickup and chipping, and light construction work.  Starting salary is $10.00 per hour.  You may fill out an application here  and fax it to (630) 852-4709 or drop it off at City Hall, 1702 Plainfield Road.

2012 Concrete Replacement Program

In conjunction with the street replacement program, the City of Darien will again offer reduced pricing to residents interested in replacing their sidewalks, driveways and aprons.  Suburban Concrete was awarded the bid for 2012.  The prices are as follows:

Driveways                               $5.90 per square foot

Sidewalks                                $3.89 per square foot

Apron                                       $3.89 per square foot

Apron w/fiber mesh                 $4.25 per square foot

Curb & gutter                           $11.90 per square foot

Sealer                                      $0.95 per square foot

Resident wishing to replace their driveways should call Suburban Concrete directly at 847-837-8805, and inform them you are a Darien resident.  Suburban Concrete will invoice you for the work.

Residents wishing to replace the sidewalk, apron or depress their driveway curb should call City Hall at 630-353-8102.  The City will invoice you for this work.

The deadline to participate in this year’s program is May 21^st.

Electronics Recycling Event hosted by College of DuPage April 28th

On Saturday, April 28th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., get your spring cleaning started by bringing your old electronic items to College of DuPage where they will be sent for proper recycling at no cost.  Universal Recycling Technologies will be assisting with the event and is committed to ensuring that all electronic items are either refurbished, reused, or recycled properly.  At the end of the event, they disburse a check to College of DuPage based on the amount of items that have been collected.  The more items collected, the more proceeds that will be given to COD student clubs for volunteering at the event!  The event will be held at 425 Fawell Blvd in Glen Ellyn.
